Our NHS Supply Chain business delivers over four million orders into 250,000 NHS hospital delivery points every year, providing anything from hi-tech diagnostic equipment, to toilet rolls and tomatoes - and everything you might not want to think about in between.

NHS Supply Chain doesn’t just deliver products to hospitals. We source and procure over 620,000 products, manage and maintain equipment, provide kits for surgeons, product advice for clinicians and deliver directly to 60,000 patient homes every week - supporting healthy communities.

The efficiency of our service means we help to keep the nations carbon footprint low, and our sourcing expertise means we can access lower global product prices whilst working ethically and responsibly. And we know that budgets are tight. By our calculations, we have delivered over £200 million worth of savings back to the NHS and are on target to deliver £1billion over the life of the contract.

National Flu Pandemic Programme

In October 2009 NHS Supply Chain signed the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Programme (PIPP) contract with the Department of Health (DH). This contract builds on NHS Supply Chain's experience of providing end-to-end supply chain management solutions for the Department. NHS Supply Chain is operated by DHL.

PIPP has been set up to ensure that the UK is well prepared to respond effectively to an influenza pandemic. The programme includes a range of clinical measures to mitigate the impact of an influenza pandemic.

NHS Supply Chain developed the logistics solution for the PIPP. The scope includes the storage and distribution of pharmaceuticals and consumables, and in addition the procurement of consumables.

The overall critical success factor is the delivery of a coherent programme of consumables and pharmaceuticals required during an influenza pandemic delivered on time, and to the appropriate delivery points.
